Igric

A professional medieval singer who became an entertainer over time. The word is probably of Slavic origin, its exact meaning is disputed, it could have been one of the names of medieval Hungarian singers: it is certainly the Hungarian equivalent of joculator. Both occupations and names have undergone changes: according to some assumptions, the word igric in property grants indicates that at first, they were esteemed singers of the royal court; however, it appears as an occupational name only from the 15th century, and its meaning at that time was rather musician, entertainer, showman and trickster.

Hivatásos középkori énekmondó, aki idők folyamán mulattatóvá lett.A szó valószínűleg szláv eredetű, pontos jelentése vitatott, a középkori magyar énekmondók egyik elnevezése lehetett: minden bizonnyal a jokulátor magyar megfelelője. Mindkét foglalkozás és elnevezés változáson ment keresztül: egyes feltételezések szerint a birtokadományozásokban szereplő igric szó arra vall, hogy eleinte a királyi udvar megbecsült énekesei lehettek; foglalkozásnévként azonban csak a 15. sz.-tól szerepel, és jelentése ekkor inkább már zenész, mulattató, mutatványos és szemfényvesztő.
